01 · Where the hotel is
A former Ottoman prison, converted intact, on a quiet lane between the Byzantine and Ottoman centrepieces of the old city.
The building is the former Sultanahmet Cezaevi — the yellow neoclassical Ottoman prison completed in 1918 and later converted, keeping the façade and the central courtyard. It sits on Tevkifhane Sokak ("Prison Street") in the Cankurtaran mahallesi of Fatih district, roughly 200 metres south-east of Hagia Sophia and 300 metres from the Blue Mosque. The property has 65 rooms — small for a Four Seasons — arranged around the courtyard and along a single wing overlooking Gülhane Park.
Everything in Sultanahmet is walking distance. Hagia Sophia (Ayasofya) and the Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Camii) are both under three minutes on foot. Topkapı Palace, the Basilica Cistern, the Hippodrome and the archaeological museums are all within ten minutes. The Marmara sea walls sit directly behind the hotel; the Grand Bazaar is fifteen minutes north. Tramway (T1) at Sultanahmet stop is a five-minute walk if you need to reach Karaköy, Taksim or Sirkeci by rail.
02 · From IST
The routing is identical to the generic IST → Sultanahmet corridor. What differs is the level of service and the price point.
Book the Four Seasons hotel car. It lands on the folio, requires no separate contact, and one message to the concierge is all it takes. Best if you value zero decisions on arrival more than €50 saved.
Book a private transfer directly. Same Mercedes E-Class, same meet-and-greet, same drop-off at the valet stand — half the price. Best if you would rather redirect the difference toward spa, dining or another night.
Take the metered taxi at the rank. Cheapest of the three, still door-to-door. Fine if you speak enough Turkish (or have Google Translate ready) to confirm the meter is on and the route is sensible.
03 · From SAW
SAW sits on the Asian side. To reach Sultanahmet the driver crosses under the Bosphorus via the Eurasia Tunnel — the fastest route regardless of vehicle class.
04 · Meet & greet
The pickup is a small piece of service theatre — done well, it is invisible; done poorly, it is the first ten minutes of the trip.
Message the driver 12–24 hours before arrival with the flight number, airport (IST or SAW), passenger name, adult count, suitcase count and preferred vehicle class. Say if a specific sign wording is needed — the default is "Four Seasons Sultanahmet — [passenger name]" printed in black on white A4.
Live tracking of the flight status means delays, early arrivals and gate changes are handled without follow-up messages. The driver leaves for the airport timed to be at the meeting-point railings roughly ten minutes after the wheels-down time, factoring in the passport control queue.
At IST, the meeting point is the railings directly opposite the customs exit — the driver stands to the left as you emerge, with the sign held at chest height. At SAW, it is the international arrivals meeting area on the same level as the exit. Both airports have wheelchair access from that point to the short-stay car park where the vehicle is parked.
The driver takes the luggage from the trolley, walks you to the short-stay lot (~3 minutes at IST, ~2 minutes at SAW), loads bags into the boot and departs. Bottled water is standard in the cup holders. From here the drive proceeds directly to the Tevkifhane Sok. valet stand — no meter, no toll add-ons, no re-quote.
05 · Vehicle class
Three Mercedes body types cover essentially every arrival profile at a hotel of this class.
The default for two adults with two large suitcases and cabin bags. Leather interior, climate control, rear seats with legroom for a 6-foot passenger. The lower end of the €50–90 IST band. Ideal for honeymoon and business arrivals of one or two.
Available on request at the top of the price band. Additional legroom, quieter cabin. A common request for anniversary or honeymoon arrivals where the drive itself is part of the moment, and for GCC guests accustomed to the S-Class as the standard airport car.
Seven seats plus a full-height boot. The right call for three or more travellers, four or more suitcases, or a family with a car seat request. Also useful for long luxury itineraries where each traveller has two cases plus a garment bag.
A rear-facing infant seat, forward-facing toddler seat or booster is available on request at no extra charge, in either E-Class or Vito. Confirm the age and weight of the child in the initial WhatsApp message so the correct seat is loaded.
06 · Drop-off
The final metres are on a pedestrianised lane. Drivers who work the district know the pull-up zone and hand luggage straight to the valet.
Tevkifhane Sokak is a short pedestrianised lane running between Kabasakal Cd. (which frames the Blue Mosque courtyard) and the sea walls above Cankurtaran station. Only permitted vehicles enter — hotel car service, licensed transfer vehicles and residents. The pull-up zone is directly at the hotel entrance, under the original prison archway.
As the car stops, the hotel valet approaches. Bags are taken from the boot to the entrance immediately; passengers walk the last five metres to the door. The vehicle then leaves — there is no long-term parking at the lane, and the hotel valet handles onward parking if the guest has arrived by their own car. Total drop-off contact time is under two minutes.
On certain religious holiday mornings (Eid prayers at the Blue Mosque, occasional state ceremonies at Hagia Sophia) the surrounding streets can be temporarily closed to all vehicles. In that case the driver drops you at the closest open corner — usually the Sultanahmet Meydanı side — and the hotel valet walks the ~150 metres to collect the luggage.

The Four Seasons concierge car is convenient — one message, billed to the room — but it is not the lowest priced. A directly-booked private transfer delivers the same class of Mercedes with the same meet-and-greet at roughly half the price. If the €50 difference matters, book direct.
Emerging from IST customs into a crowded arrivals hall to look for a driver by memory of their profile picture is a poor start to a five-star stay. Confirm a sign — "Four Seasons Sultanahmet — [name]" — is being held at the meeting-point railings. That single detail removes 90% of arrival friction.
The Sultanahmet property (Tevkifhane Sok., Fatih) and the Bosphorus property (Çırağan Cd., Beşiktaş) are 10 km and 25 minutes apart. The last five minutes of the journey are cobbled and narrow. On religious holidays or during ceremonial events the lane may be closed to vehicles.
