HVIST-1 to Taksim
Istanbul Airport (IST) → Beylikdüzü → Bakırköy → Yenikapı → Taksim Square. Runs 24/7 with overnight gaps. Fare ~₺220–380, ~70–90 minutes. Board at the Havaist stand on IST arrivals lower level.
Route · IST → Beşiktaş (Bosphorus shore)
Landing at Istanbul Airport (IST) with a hotel in Beşiktaş — the historic waterfront district on the European Bosphorus shore, home to Dolmabahçe Palace and the largest cluster of five-star Bosphorus-front properties in the city. Distance: ~45–50 km. Travel time: 45–90 minutes depending on traffic. Four ways to make the trip: metered taxi (~₺1,300–1,800), fixed-price WhatsApp transfer, Havaist HVIST-1 to Taksim + short hop, or M11 metro + M2 + bus (~₺70 total, ~70 min). Compare all four below.
Updated
01 · Where is Beşiktaş?
Beşiktaş is a historic waterfront district on the European shore of the Bosphorus, hosting the highest concentration of five-star sea-front hotels in Istanbul. Understanding the geography helps you brief the driver.
Beşiktaş stretches along the western bank of the Bosphorus from Dolmabahçe Palace in the south, past Beşiktaş Meydanı (the main square and ferry terminal), north through Çırağan, Ortaköy, Kuruçeşme, Arnavutköy and Bebek. The whole district is on the same continent as Istanbul Airport — no Bosphorus bridge is crossed on the taxi run, only the O-7 motorway inland.
Beşiktaş hosts Istanbul's densest concentration of five-star sea-front hotels: Four Seasons Bosphorus, Çırağan Palace Kempinski, Shangri-La Bosphorus, Swissôtel The Bosphorus, W Istanbul, Conrad and Ritz-Carlton. Plus landmarks: Dolmabahçe Palace, Yıldız Palace, Naval Museum, Vodafone Park (Tüpraş Stadyumu) and Ortaköy Mosque. Every driver knows the strip — give a hotel name and they know within a hundred metres.
02 · Four ways
Compare all four side-by-side. Best option depends on group size, luggage, time of arrival and whether you value doorstep drop-off at a Bosphorus-front lobby.
Fixed-price WhatsApp transfer, no question. Bosphorus-front check-ins at Four Seasons, Çırağan or Shangri-La expect a black car at the forecourt — the driver knows the private entrance.
Metered taxi or fixed-price transfer. Door-to-door beats hauling suitcases downhill from a bus stop on Barbaros Bulvarı. Per person cost drops with 2–4 travellers.
Taxi or pre-booked transfer only. M11 metro closes around midnight; the last bus 22 runs late but is infrequent overnight. A booked WhatsApp transfer means the driver waits regardless of delay.
03 · Taxi route
The route stays entirely on the European side. No Bosphorus bridge, no ferry — just the O-7 motorway south-east, then a descent down Barbaros Bulvarı into the waterfront district.
O-7 motorway → E-6 / TEM eastbound → Zincirlikuyu junction → Barbaros Bulvarı descent → Beşiktaş waterfront. Off-peak (early morning, late night, weekends) this is 45–50 minutes. Rush hour (07:30–09:30, 17:00–19:30) Barbaros Bulvarı becomes a bottleneck on the last 3 km — expect 75–90 minutes total.
O-7 → Cendere Cd. → TEM eastbound → Zincirlikuyu → Barbaros Bulvarı. Same descent into Beşiktaş but a different inland approach — some drivers prefer it when the standard O-7 segment is congested. The meter charges by km so the fare is close either way. Ask the driver "en hızlı yol lütfen" (fastest route please).
The Beşiktaş run touches only one toll segment — the O-7 motorway. No Bosphorus bridge is crossed because Beşiktaş is on the European side, the same continent as the airport. This keeps the total toll cost well below cross-Bosphorus destinations.
Verify current toll rates at hgs.gov.tr. The driver pays via HGS on the windshield and you reimburse in cash at the end. Confirm the toll figure on the receipt.
04 · Havaist
Unlike Sultanahmet, Beşiktaş does not have a reliable dedicated Havaist coach with the same frequency. The practical route is HVIST-1 to Taksim, then a short taxi or funicular down to the waterfront.
Istanbul Airport (IST) → Beylikdüzü → Bakırköy → Yenikapı → Taksim Square. Runs 24/7 with overnight gaps. Fare ~₺220–380, ~70–90 minutes. Board at the Havaist stand on IST arrivals lower level.
From Taksim: taxi to any Beşiktaş address (~₺100–150, 10 min) or M2 metro one stop to Şişhane → F1 funicular to Kabataş → short taxi. Kabataş is the eastern edge of the Beşiktaş waterfront strip.
Havaist occasionally runs a Beşiktaş-direct departure (branded HVIST-3 historically). Frequency is lower and not guaranteed — check the departure board on arrival. If none is due within 30 min, HVIST-1 to Taksim is the reliable fallback.
HVIST-1 to Taksim (~90 min, ₺220–380) plus a short taxi hop to Beşiktaş (~₺100–150, 10 min) totals ~₺300–450 and ~100 minutes end-to-end. For a solo budget traveller with light luggage, still cheaper than a direct taxi — but with two changes and no doorstep drop-off.

05 · Metro + bus
Public transport to Beşiktaş costs a fraction of a taxi but involves two transfers and a downhill bus leg awkward with heavy luggage.
Board at IST metro station (lower level, follow "Metro" signs). 10 stations, ~30 minutes, ~₺42. Trains every 10–15 minutes, first ~06:00, last ~00:00. Purchase İstanbulkart from the vending machine before boarding.
Transfer at Gayrettepe to the M2 line (green, southbound) and ride one stop to Levent. ~3 minutes, ~₺15. Alternatively stay on M2 to Şişhane if you prefer the funicular route to Kabataş.
Exit Levent metro, follow signs to the İETT bus stop. Bus 22 or 22RE descends Barbaros Bulvarı to Beşiktaş Meydanı in ~15–20 minutes, ~₺15 with İstanbulkart. From Beşiktaş Square, most Bosphorus-shore hotels are a short taxi or 10–15 minute walk along the waterfront.
Another option is M11 to Kağıthane (~25 min, ~₺35), then M7 south to Mecidiyeköy (~10 min, ~₺20), then either a short taxi (~₺80) or bus down Barbaros Bulvarı to Beşiktaş. Useful when the M2 southbound is very crowded at rush hour. Total ~75 minutes, similar total cost.
Total cost of the M11 + M2 + Bus 22 route: ~₺70 per person with İstanbulkart transfers, versus ~₺1,500 for a taxi. Allow ~70 minutes end-to-end. Fine with a day pack; not fun with two suitcases on the bus.
06 · Hotels
The Bosphorus waterfront hosts Istanbul's densest cluster of luxury sea-front hotels. Below: the most common IST → Beşiktaş drop-off points we handle.
Çırağan Cd., between Dolmabahçe and Çırağan Palace. Historic Ottoman mansion — driver drops at the private forecourt off the main road.
Çırağan Cd. The 19th-century Ottoman palace itself, right on the water. Grand entrance — driver knows the security gate protocol.
Sinanpaşa Mah., adjacent to Dolmabahçe Palace. Contemporary five-star with Bosphorus views — southernmost of the strip.
Bayıldım Cd., on the hillside above Dolmabahçe. Landscaped grounds, panoramic Bosphorus views. Common IST arrival for business travellers.
Süleyman Seba Cd., in the restored Akaretler row houses just uphill from Beşiktaş Square. Boutique-style within the district.
Yıldız Cd., Beşiktaş. Modern high-rise with wide Bosphorus panoramas across Yıldız Park. Straightforward Barbaros Bulvarı access.
Süzer Plaza, at the Dolmabahçe end. Technically the border with Şişli — driver takes the standard Barbaros Bulvarı route regardless.
Çırağan Cd., just past Çırağan Palace towards Ortaköy. Boutique Bosphorus-front — often chosen by families for the waterfront terrace.
Hotel Les Ottomans (Kuruçeşme, ex-yalı) and Bebek Otel (Bebek waterfront) extend the Bosphorus-shore strip north. Add 10–15 minutes to the run.
Send the Google Maps pin of your hotel via WhatsApp before the trip. The whole Beşiktaş–Ortaköy–Kuruçeşme–Bebek strip is well-known — driver will get you to the correct forecourt or gate.
07 · Watch-outs
Four traps that catch first-time visitors on this specific route.
Never take a ride from anyone approaching you inside IST arrivals. All licensed taxis wait outside at the official rank — follow the "Taxi" signs. Anyone inviting you to their "hotel car" or offering a discounted transfer to a Bosphorus hotel is unlicensed and will overcharge.
Some drivers at the airport rank quote a "fixed price" to Beşiktaş instead of using the meter. This is illegal — the metered UKOME tariff is mandatory. Politely say "meter please" (taksimetre lütfen) or walk to the next car.
Beşiktaş is on the European side — the same continent as IST. There is no bridge crossing and no bridge toll. If a driver claims a bridge fee is added, decline politely. Only the O-7 motorway toll (~₺30–50) is legitimate.
The M11 metro from IST closes around midnight and bus 22 becomes infrequent overnight. If you land at 01:00 or 02:00, only a taxi or pre-booked WhatsApp transfer will reliably reach your Bosphorus hotel — the metro + bus chain is not running.
08 · FAQ
The most-asked questions for travellers making this exact trip.
A licensed metered taxi from Istanbul Airport (IST) to Beşiktaş typically costs ₺1,300–1,800 in 2026, including O-7 motorway tolls (~₺30–50). The distance is ~45–50 km along the European side and the journey takes ~45–90 minutes depending on traffic. There is no night surcharge — the same single UKOME tariff applies 24/7.
Beşiktaş sits on the European shore of the Bosphorus, about 45–50 km south-east of Istanbul Airport (IST). By taxi via the O-7 motorway and Barbaros Bulvarı the trip is ~45 minutes off-peak and 60–90 minutes in rush hour. No Bosphorus bridge crossing is needed — Beşiktaş is on the same European side as the airport.
There is no reliable dedicated Havaist line straight to Beşiktaş with the frequency of the Taksim service. The practical option is HVIST-1 to Taksim (~₺220–380, ~70–90 min), then a 10-minute taxi or a downhill tram + funicular hop via Kabataş. Check the Havaist board on arrival for any Beşiktaş-direct departures — schedules do change.
The standard route is O-7 motorway south-east from the airport, joining the E-6 / TEM towards Zincirlikuyu, then descending Barbaros Bulvarı directly into Beşiktaş. No Bosphorus bridge is crossed — the route stays on the European side. Off-peak this is ~45 minutes; at rush hour Barbaros Bulvarı can slow the last few km significantly. Tolls total ~₺30–50.
The Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at the Bosphorus is in Beşiktaş, on Çırağan Cd. between Dolmabahçe and Çırağan Palace. By taxi from IST it is ~50 km / 50–75 minutes via O-7 and Barbaros Bulvarı, fare ₺1,400–1,900 with tolls. A fixed-price WhatsApp transfer is the most common choice for guests — driver meets at arrivals and drops at the hotel forecourt.
They are similar — Taksim is ~40–45 km, Beşiktaş ~45–50 km. Off-peak both are 45–55 minutes. In rush hour Beşiktaş can be slower because the final descent down Barbaros Bulvarı funnels traffic into the waterfront. Metered taxi cost is very close: ₺1,200–1,700 for Taksim, ₺1,300–1,800 for Beşiktaş.
Not directly. The M11 metro from IST goes to Gayrettepe (~30 min, ~₺42). From there transfer to M2 southbound one stop to Levent, then bus 22 or 22RE downhill to Beşiktaş, or walk ~20 minutes. Alternatively M11 → Kağıthane → M7 south to Mecidiyeköy → bus. Total ~65–75 minutes and ~₺70 — cheap but awkward with luggage and downhill walks.
After midnight only two options remain reliable: an airport taxi from the official rank, or a pre-booked fixed-price WhatsApp transfer. The M11 metro stops running around midnight and Havaist HVIST-1 to Taksim drops to hourly overnight. For guests of Bosphorus luxury hotels, a pre-booked transfer with meet-and-greet is standard — the driver waits regardless of flight delay.
Yes — Four Seasons Bosphorus, Çırağan Palace Kempinski, Shangri-La Bosphorus, W Istanbul, Swissôtel The Bosphorus, Conrad, Ritz-Carlton, Radisson Blu Bosphorus, Les Ottomans and Bebek Otel are all household names to Istanbul airport drivers. The Beşiktaş waterfront hotels sit in a compact strip along Çırağan Cd. and the coastal road, so a driver who has done the run once knows the whole cluster.
