Route
Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) → Bostancı → Kadıköy. Direct service, drop-off at Kadıköy Rıhtım, next to the ferry pier, T3 tram terminus and Söğütlüçeşme onward links.
Route · SAW → Kadıköy (Asian side)
Landing at Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) with a hotel in Kadıköy — the trendy Asian-side district on the Marmara coast, home to Moda, Bahariye and the ferry pier. Both airport and destination sit on the same side of the Bosphorus, so there is no bridge, no tunnel and no ferry involved. Distance: ~35–45 km. Travel time: 35 minutes off-peak, 55–75 in rush hour. Four ways to make the trip: metered taxi (~₺1,000–1,500), fixed-price WhatsApp transfer, HAVABUS direct coach (~₺140–200), or M4 metro direct (~₺50, ~50 min). This is the shortest, cheapest transfer of any SAW → central route.
Updated
01 · Where is Kadıköy?
Kadıköy sits on the Asian shore of Istanbul, facing the historic peninsula across the Bosphorus. SAW is also on the Asian side — the whole transfer stays east of the water, which is what makes this the shortest and cheapest SAW → central route.
Kadıköy is a large district on the Marmara coast covering Moda (leafy seaside neighbourhood with a long waterfront walk), Bahariye (pedestrian street lined with cafés, bars and second-hand bookshops), the Kadıköy Rıhtım ferry pier (services to Karaköy, Eminönü and Beşiktaş) and the famous Salı Pazarı Tuesday market. The vibe is hipster and local — less touristy than Sultanahmet — and the district has exploded in popularity in recent years with digital nomads and young professionals.
SAW is in Pendik, roughly 35–45 km east of Kadıköy along the E-5 and D-100 corridor. Because both endpoints are on the Asian side, the taxi does not cross the Bosphorus — no FSM Bridge toll, no 15 July Martyrs Bridge toll, no Eurasia Tunnel charge. Total road tolls come in around ₺30–50, versus ₺100+ from IST on the European side. If your flight allows a choice between airports and Kadıköy is your target, SAW is by a clear margin the cheaper and quicker landing.
02 · Four ways
Compare all four side-by-side. Best option depends on group size, luggage, time of arrival and budget. The M4 metro is unusually competitive here — a rare case where the metro is a serious rival to a taxi.
M4 metro is the standout choice on this route. One line, no transfer, ~₺50, and the terminus is right next to Kadıköy's ferry pier. If you have a wheelie suitcase and it's not rush hour, it's arguably better than a taxi.
Fixed-price transfer or metered taxi. Door-to-door means no lifting bags on and off the metro or dragging them across the rıhtım. With 2–4 travellers the per-person cost is close to HAVABUS anyway.
Taxi or fixed-price transfer. M4 closes around midnight; HAVABUS runs overnight but with ~60 min gaps. A pre-booked WhatsApp transfer means someone is waiting when you land, even at 03:00.
03 · Taxi route
The road layout is simple. There is one main corridor — the E-5 — with an alternative motorway option (TEM/O-4) for peak-hour congestion. No complex tunnel or bridge choices, no ferry, no Bosphorus toll.
SAW → E-5 (D-100) west → Kadıköy exit. The default choice. Straight coastal-parallel highway all the way from Pendik to the Kadıköy exits. Off-peak (early morning, late evening, weekends) this is a 35–45 minute drive. In rush hour (07:30–10:00 westbound, 17:00–20:00 eastbound) the E-5 crawls and 60–75 minutes is realistic.
SAW → TEM (O-4) west → Bostancı exit → D-100 → Kadıköy. The motorway sits inland and skirts the worst of the coastal congestion. Preferred by drivers during rush hour. Adds a small toll (~₺30) but often saves 15–25 minutes when the E-5 is jammed. Same metered fare either way — the taxi charges by km, not by chosen route.
This route has the lowest toll cost of any SAW → central destination because it never crosses the Bosphorus. The driver pays automatically via HGS (High-Speed Toll) on the windshield and you reimburse in cash at the end.
Verify current toll rates at hgs.gov.tr. Some drivers pre-pay tolls; others reimburse as separate cash — either is legal, just confirm the total on the receipt.
04 · HAVABUS
The İETT-linked HAVABUS network runs a dedicated Kadıköy line from SAW — the main coach option for the Asian side. Slower than a taxi but with a fixed ticket price and drop-off right at the ferry pier.
Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) → Bostancı → Kadıköy. Direct service, drop-off at Kadıköy Rıhtım, next to the ferry pier, T3 tram terminus and Söğütlüçeşme onward links.
~40–55 minutes depending on traffic. Fare ~₺140–200, paid onboard by İstanbulkart, contactless bank card or in cash to the driver.
Exit SAW arrivals and follow the "HAVABUS" signs — the stand is directly outside the terminal building. Board the Kadıköy service (route displayed on the front of the coach). No pre-booking needed.
HAVABUS runs frequent daytime departures — typically every 30 minutes at peak hours. Overnight the gap widens to around 60 minutes, and the last useful late service departs SAW around 03:00. Coaches have dedicated luggage racks and Wi-Fi.

05 · Metro (M4)
Unlike most airport-to-central metros in Istanbul, M4 runs directly from SAW to Kadıköy with no transfer. It's cheap, quick and — for solo or light-luggage travellers — a serious rival to a taxi.
Follow "Metro" signs from arrivals — the M4 SAW station is integrated with the terminal, no long shuttle walk required. Buy an İstanbulkart at the vending machine before you enter the platform.
Board any train — M4 is a single line, no branch confusion. ~11 stations, ~50 minutes end-to-end, fare ~₺50. Trains run roughly 06:00–00:00 at frequencies of 5–10 minutes.
The line terminates at Kadıköy, right next to the ferry pier and the rıhtım. Exit signposts lead you straight up onto the seafront square, walking distance to Moda, Bahariye and most Kadıköy hotels.
If your hotel is near Söğütlüçeşme (Feneryolu, upper Bahariye) it can be quicker to get off M4 at Ayrılıkçeşmesi and transfer one stop on the Marmaray commuter rail to Söğütlüçeşme, then walk 10 minutes down to the rıhtım. Same İstanbulkart, small transfer discount applies, total ~₺55.
Total cost of the direct M4 route: ~₺50 per person with İstanbulkart, versus ~₺1,200 for a taxi. Allow ~50 minutes end-to-end. This is a rare Istanbul airport route where the metro is quicker than the coach and only slightly slower than a taxi.
06 · Hotels
Kadıköy covers a larger area than Sultanahmet, so hotel drop-offs vary — Moda, Bahariye, Feneryolu and Kalamış each need slightly different final-approach roads. Below: the most common SAW → Kadıköy drop-off points we handle.
Caferağa mah., steps from Moda Caddesi. Reliable Hilton standard, close to the Moda tram line and 10 minutes' walk from the ferry pier.
Kalamış Marina, east side of Kadıköy. Larger property with sea views, popular for longer stays and business travellers.
On Moda Caddesi in the heart of the Moda café strip. Small design-led rooms, popular with digital nomads and creatives.
Rasimpaşa mah., near Söğütlüçeşme. Handy for Marmaray and Bahariye, sensible walking distance to the rıhtım.
Compact Moda-side boutique, short walk to Moda Sahili (the seaside walk) and the Bahariye pedestrian street.
Feneryolu and Fenerbahçe host a cluster of small apart-hotels along the coast, popular with visitors staying a week or more. Marmaray-friendly.
Moda and Bahariye have dozens of independent guesthouses in restored Moda apartment buildings — Casa Del Frida-style, quiet street addresses, boutique vibe.
Off Bahariye near Kuşdili — small, family-run rooms, popular with returning guests. Central for cafés and the Salı Pazarı Tuesday market.
Send the Google Maps pin of your hotel via WhatsApp before the trip. Kadıköy's narrow lanes and pedestrian-only Bahariye Caddesi are covered — driver will get you to the closest safe drop-off.
07 · Watch-outs
Four traps that catch first-time visitors on this specific route.
You should never cross the Bosphorus on a SAW → Kadıköy trip — both are Asian side. If your driver heads toward the FSM Bridge, 15 July Martyrs Bridge or Eurasia Tunnel, they're taking a wrong turn (or worse, padding tolls). Ask calmly to stay on the E-5 or O-4 Asian side.
Some drivers at SAW quote a "fixed price" instead of using the meter. This is illegal — the metered UKOME tariff is mandatory for street pickups. Politely say "meter please" (taksimetre lütfen) or walk to the next car. A genuine fixed-price transfer is a separate service booked in advance, not offered at the rank.
The M4 metro closes around midnight. If your flight lands at 01:00, only taxi, fixed-price transfer or overnight HAVABUS will get you to Kadıköy — the metro option isn't running. Same for a very early morning flight before 06:00.
Bahariye Caddesi is pedestrianised — no vehicle drop-off possible on the street itself. Give the driver the nearest access road (Söğütlüçeşme Cd. or Kuşdili Cd.) and walk the last 100–300 metres to your hotel. Sending the exact Google Maps pin before the trip avoids confusion.
08 · FAQ
The most-asked questions for travellers making this exact trip.
A licensed metered taxi from Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) to Kadıköy typically costs ₺1,000–1,500 in 2026, including modest motorway tolls (~₺30–50). The distance is ~35–45 km and the journey takes ~35 minutes off-peak, 55–75 minutes in rush hour. There is no night surcharge — the same single UKOME tariff applies 24/7. This is the lowest-toll SAW route into central Istanbul because it involves no Bosphorus crossing.
Kadıköy sits ~35–45 km west of Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), depending on the exact address (Moda, Bahariye or the rıhtım ferry pier). Both are on the Asian side of Istanbul — SAW in Pendik, Kadıköy on the Marmara coast — so the drive stays on the E-5 or O-4 corridor and never crosses the Bosphorus.
Yes — HAVABUS runs a direct SAW → Kadıköy line. The fare is ~₺140–200, journey time 40–55 minutes off-peak. It runs frequently through the daytime with reduced service overnight. Board at the HAVABUS stand outside SAW arrivals; drop-off is at Kadıköy Rıhtım, close to the ferry pier and T3 tram.
Yes. The M4 metro line runs directly from Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) to Kadıköy, ~11 stations, ~50 minutes, ~₺50. Trains operate roughly 06:00–00:00. This is a genuinely competitive alternative for solo travellers with light luggage — no transfers, one ticket, drop off at Kadıköy metro station right by the ferry pier.
Yes, significantly. SAW → Kadıköy is ~35–45 km on the Asian side with only modest tolls (~₺30–50). IST → Kadıköy is ~60 km and crosses a Bosphorus bridge or the Eurasia Tunnel, adding ₺100+ in tolls plus more meter distance. A SAW → Kadıköy taxi runs ₺1,000–1,500; the equivalent IST run typically ₺1,700–2,200. If your flight allows both airports and Kadıköy is your target, SAW is the cheaper landing.
SAW to Moda is a Kadıköy sub-district drop-off, ~40–45 km, ~40–60 minutes depending on traffic. Metered taxi fare ₺1,100–1,600 including tolls. The driver stays on E-5 or O-4, exits at Fenerbahçe or Bostancı, then follows the coast road into Moda. Narrow lanes near Moda Sahili mean the drop-off is often at the nearest wide corner, not literally at the door.
Bahariye Caddesi is Kadıköy's pedestrianised main street, just inland from the rıhtım. Taxis follow E-5 → D-100 → Söğütlüçeşme exit and drop off on Söğütlüçeşme Cd. or Kuşdili Cd. — Bahariye itself is closed to traffic. Fare ~₺1,000–1,500, ~40–55 minutes. From the drop-off it's a 3–5 minute walk down Bahariye or to any hotel on the neighbouring side streets.
The M4 metro closes around midnight, so after 00:00 your realistic options are a metered taxi, a fixed-price WhatsApp transfer or the overnight HAVABUS (frequency drops to roughly one an hour). A pre-booked WhatsApp transfer is the least stressful — driver waits with your name on a sign no matter how late the flight is. There is no night surcharge on the metered taxi tariff.
For arrivals between midnight and 05:00, a fixed-price WhatsApp transfer is the best option: driver meets you at arrivals, luggage help, one settled price, no scramble for the last HAVABUS. A metered taxi from the rank works too — the yellow-cab tariff is the same 24/7 and no supplement applies. Avoid the M4 metro window; the last trains leave around midnight and the first restart around 06:00.
