Route
Istanbul Airport (IST) → O-7 → Eurasia Tunnel → D-100 Anadolu → Kadıköy pier. Drops on the seaside road next to the ferry terminal, a short walk from most Moda and Bahariye hotels.
Route · IST → Kadıköy (Asian side)
Landing at Istanbul Airport (IST) with a hotel in Kadıköy — the trendy Asian-side district on the Marmara coast, home to Moda, Bahariye and the ferry pier. Distance: ~65–75 km (crosses the Bosphorus). Travel time: 60–110 minutes depending on traffic and route. Four ways to make the trip: metered taxi (~₺1,700–2,400 incl. tolls), fixed-price WhatsApp transfer, Havaist HVIST-14 direct coach (~₺250–420), or M11 metro + Marmaray under the Bosphorus (~₺84–100, ~110 min). Compare all four below.
Updated
01 · Where is Kadıköy?
The Asian-side counter-weight to Sultanahmet and Taksim. A neighbourhood that has exploded in popularity — cafés, second-hand shops, ferry pier, Moda seaside walk — and where most visitors want to stay to escape the tourist crush.
Kadıköy is a district on the Asian side of Istanbul, facing the Sea of Marmara and the mouth of the Bosphorus. The historic centre — the ferry pier, Salı Pazarı (Tuesday market), Bahariye pedestrian street with its cafés and bars, and the Moda seaside walk — is the destination for most visitors. Recently overtaken Taksim as the district Istanbulites actually spend their weekends in.
Unlike Sultanahmet, Kadıköy's hotels are spread over ~4 km. Core options cluster around the Moda peninsula and Bahariye. A second cluster runs east along Bağdat Cd. through Fenerbahçe and Kalamış Marina. Give the driver your Google Maps pin — a "Kadıköy hotel" could mean a 15-minute drive between two of them. Street layout is one-way and narrow around Moda; drop-off is often at the closest wide corner.
02 · Four ways
Compare all four side-by-side. Best option depends on group size, luggage, time of arrival and how much you care about arriving toll-free.
Havaist HVIST-14 is the sweet spot for a single traveller — direct across the Bosphorus, luggage-friendly, one seat. If you're happy with two rail changes and a walk in Söğütlüçeşme, save more with M11 + Marmaray.
Fixed-price transfer or metered taxi. Door-to-door means no dragging bags up Marmaray steps or hunting a second taxi at Söğütlüçeşme. Per-person cost drops fast with 2–4 travellers.
Taxi or fixed-price transfer. M11 metro and Marmaray close around midnight; Havaist runs overnight but with 60–90 minute gaps. A pre-booked WhatsApp transfer means someone is waiting when you land.
03 · Taxi route
Every route to the Asian side has to cross the Bosphorus — either under it (Eurasia Tunnel) or over it (FSM Bridge or Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge). Which one the driver picks depends on the time of day and live traffic.
O-7 motorway → D-100 → Avrasya Tüneli under the Bosphorus → D-100 Anadolu → Kadıköy. Off-peak this is the quickest route at ~60 minutes. The tunnel toll is around ₺150 per car, so total tolls run ₺150–200. Best if you want the shortest travel time and are not counting every lira.
O-7 → Fatih Sultan Mehmet (FSM) Bridge → E-5 Anadolu → Kadıköy. Longer distance and slower at rush hour because the FSM Bridge itself becomes a chokepoint. But the toll is only ~₺30–40, and total tolls stay under ₺80–130. Some drivers default here to keep the meter honest.
O-7 → Yavuz Sultan Selim (3rd) Bridge → O-7 continuation → E-5 south → Kadıköy. A longer northern loop that avoids the entire central Bosphorus corridor. Occasionally faster during heavy rush hour when both the tunnel and the FSM Bridge are jammed. Toll around ₺40–60.
Meter charges by km, not by route, so a longer route inflates the fare. Reputable drivers check Google Maps or Yandex traffic and pick the fastest legal route. If you want to keep it simple, say "Avrasya Tüneli" for the tunnel or "FSM köprüsü" for the bridge — the driver will follow your preference.
Every IST → Kadıköy route crosses at least one toll gate. The driver pays automatically via HGS (High-Speed Toll) on their windshield, and you reimburse in cash at drop-off.
Verify current toll rates at hgs.gov.tr and avrasyatuneli.com. Some drivers show the HGS receipt on their phone; others reimburse as separate cash — either is legal, just confirm the total.
04 · Havaist
The official İBB airport coach network runs a dedicated Kadıköy line via the Eurasia Tunnel. Slower than a taxi but with a fixed ticket price and 24/7 operation.
Istanbul Airport (IST) → O-7 → Eurasia Tunnel → D-100 Anadolu → Kadıköy pier. Drops on the seaside road next to the ferry terminal, a short walk from most Moda and Bahariye hotels.
~80–110 minutes depending on traffic and Bosphorus crossing conditions. Fare ~₺250–420, paid onboard by İstanbulkart, contactless bank card or in cash to the driver.
Follow "Havaist" signs from arrivals downstairs to the coach station (lower level). Board at the HVIST-14 platform — check the departure board for the next departure. No pre-booking needed.
Modern 46-seat coaches with Wi-Fi, USB charging at each seat, TV screens and dedicated luggage racks in the belly of the coach. Two large suitcases per person included in the fare.

05 · Metro + Marmaray
Public transport to Kadıköy costs a fraction of a taxi but involves at least one transfer and finishes with a walk or short taxi from Söğütlüçeşme to the Kadıköy pier area.
Board at IST metro station (lower level, follow "Metro" signs). ~40 minutes to Halkalı, ~₺42. Trains every 10–15 minutes, first ~06:00, last ~00:00. Buy an İstanbulkart from the vending machine before boarding.
Transfer at Halkalı to Marmaray commuter rail (eastbound). ~30 minutes under the Bosphorus to Söğütlüçeşme, ~₺27 with same İstanbulkart. Trains every 6–10 minutes, first 06:00, last 00:00.
From Söğütlüçeşme, walk 10–15 minutes down to the Kadıköy pier area (mostly downhill) or take a short taxi (~₺80–120) if you have heavy luggage. Alternatively, one M4 metro stop from Ayrılıkçeşmesi (same station complex) to Kadıköy proper.
An older route uses M11 → Kağıthane, then M7 south to Mecidiyeköy, M2 to Yenikapı, and finally Marmaray to Ayrılıkçeşmesi or Söğütlüçeşme. Longer, more transfers, but sometimes used when the Halkalı-end Marmaray timetable is thin. Budget ~₺100 total and around 120 minutes.
Total cost of the M11 + Marmaray route: ~₺84 per person with İstanbulkart transfers, versus ~₺2,000 for a taxi. But allow 100–120 minutes end-to-end including walking between platforms, the wait times and the last hop into Kadıköy centre.
06 · Hotels
Kadıköy's hotels spread from Moda in the south through Bahariye and up along the Marmara coast to Fenerbahçe and Kalamış. Below: the most common IST → Kadıköy drop-off points we handle.
Caferağa Mah., a short walk from the Moda seaside walk and Bahariye Cd. Standard IST drop-off — driver knows the door.
Fener Kalamış Cd., overlooking Kalamış marina. Adds ~10 minutes onto the Kadıköy centre drop-off — expect the meter to be higher.
Moda Cd., a heritage building turned design hotel. Narrow one-way lanes — drop-off usually at the wide corner around the block.
Osmanağa Mah., near Bahariye. Short walk to the ferry pier and the cafés on Kadife Sok.
Off Bağdat Cd., a reliable modern hotel used by business travellers and families. Easy access from D-100 Anadolu — quick final approach.
Small guesthouses along Bağdat Cd. through Feneryolu and Fenerbahçe. Add ~10 minutes past the Kadıköy centre. Send your Google Maps pin.
Family-run pansiyon and boutique apartments across Moda's residential streets. Drop-off at the corner, then a short walk with your bags.
Pedestrianised Bahariye Cd. and side streets — 5-minute walk from the ferry pier. Drivers stop at the top of the pedestrian zone.
Send the Google Maps pin of your hotel via WhatsApp before the trip. Kadıköy's one-way system and narrow Moda lanes are covered — driver will get you to the closest safe drop-off.
07 · Watch-outs
Four traps that catch first-time visitors on this specific Asian-side route.
Never take a ride from anyone approaching you inside IST arrivals. All licensed taxis wait outside at the official rank — follow the "Taxi" signs. Anyone inviting you to their "hotel car" is unlicensed and will overcharge, especially for the longer Asian-side trip.
The Eurasia Tunnel is faster but the toll is ~₺150; the FSM Bridge is slower but the toll is ~₺30–40. Some drivers default to the tunnel to pad the fare. Say "Avrasya Tüneli" or "FSM köprüsü lütfen" upfront to lock in the route and toll cost.
Kadıköy is on the Asian side across the Bosphorus. Karaköy is on the European side next to the Galata Bridge. The names sound alike; the fare and route are completely different. Show the driver the exact Google Maps pin to avoid ending up on the wrong continent.
Both M11 metro from IST and Marmaray under the Bosphorus close around midnight. If you land at 01:00, only taxi, fixed-price transfer or overnight Havaist HVIST-14 will get you to Kadıköy — the rail option is not running.
08 · FAQ
The most-asked questions for travellers making this exact Asian-side trip.
A licensed metered taxi from Istanbul Airport (IST) to Kadıköy typically costs ₺1,700–2,400 in 2026, including Bosphorus crossing tolls (~₺150–200 if the driver takes the Eurasia Tunnel, ~₺80–130 via the FSM Bridge). The distance is ~65–75 km depending on the route and the journey takes 60–110 minutes. There is no night surcharge — a single 24/7 UKOME tariff applies.
Two reasons. First, the distance is longer — Kadıköy is on the Asian side, so you cross the Bosphorus and travel 65–75 km versus ~50 km to Sultanahmet. Second, the tolls are heavier: the Eurasia Tunnel (Avrasya Tüneli) alone costs around ₺150 for a car. The combination adds ₺300–500 to the fare compared with a European-side hotel transfer.
By taxi: ~60 minutes off-peak (early morning, late night, weekends), 80–110 minutes in rush hour. By Havaist HVIST-14 coach: 80–110 minutes. By M11 metro plus Marmaray commuter rail (via Halkalı or via M2 + Yenikapı): 100–120 minutes end-to-end including transfers and walking.
Three main options. Eurasia Tunnel route: O-7 → D-100 → Avrasya Tüneli under the Bosphorus → D-100 Anadolu → Kadıköy. Fastest, highest toll. FSM Bridge route: O-7 → Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge → E-5 Anadolu → Kadıköy. Cheaper toll, longer distance. Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge (northern) route: used mostly at rush hour to avoid FSM congestion. The driver picks based on time of day and live traffic — the meter charges by km, not by route.
The Eurasia Tunnel toll for a passenger car is approximately ₺150 in 2026 (verify current rate at avrasyatuneli.com or hgs.gov.tr). The FSM Bridge is much cheaper at ~₺30–40. Total tolls on the IST → Kadıköy trip typically add ₺150–200 if the tunnel is used, or ₺80–130 via the FSM Bridge route. The driver pays via HGS on the windshield and you reimburse in cash at drop-off.
Yes — HVIST-14 is the direct İBB Havaist coach from Istanbul Airport (IST) to Kadıköy, crossing the Bosphorus via the Eurasia Tunnel. It costs ~₺250–420 per person, runs 24/7 with reduced overnight frequency, has luggage racks and Wi-Fi. Drops at Kadıköy pier, a short walk from most Moda and Bahariye hotels. Slower than a taxi but much cheaper for solo travellers.
You can, but it means two legs and a walk. From IST you first need to reach a European-side ferry pier (Karaköy, Eminönü or Beşiktaş) by taxi, Havaist or metro. Then the Şehir Hatları or Turyol ferry to Kadıköy takes ~20 minutes and costs ~₺30. Total time typically 100–140 minutes with luggage. Only worth it in daylight, in good weather, and if you want the Bosphorus arrival experience. A direct taxi or HVIST-14 is faster and easier with bags.
Not directly. Two rail options. Option 1: M11 to Halkalı, then Marmaray commuter rail under the Bosphorus direct to Söğütlüçeşme (walk 10–15 min or short taxi to Kadıköy rıhtım). Option 2: M11 to Kağıthane, transfer M7 south to Mecidiyeköy, M2 to Yenikapı, Marmaray to Ayrılıkçeşmesi or Söğütlüçeşme. Total 100–120 minutes. Cheap (~₺84–100) but awkward with heavy luggage.
Kadıköy stretches from Haydarpaşa station in the north down through the ferry pier area, Moda, Bahariye, Fenerbahçe and Kalamış. Most hotels sit in Moda (Cafer Ağa, Osmanağa mahallesi) or along Bağdat Cd. towards Fenerbahçe. Driver drops at the door where lanes allow, or at the nearest wide corner — Moda's narrow streets and one-way system mean the very last 50 metres are sometimes on foot. Send your Google Maps pin via WhatsApp before the trip.
