The airport sits in Arnavutköy, north-west of the city; Eminönü sits at the tip of the historic peninsula. Both routes stay on the European side — no bridge crossing.
Coastal route (the scenic standard)
O-7 motorway → D-100 Sahil Yolu via Bakırköy → Yenikapı → Kumkapı → around Sarayburnu to Eminönü. After the motorway, the taxi joins the coastal road and runs east along the Sea of Marmara, tracing the line of the old Byzantine sea walls before curving around the tip of the peninsula to the Golden Horn side. Most drivers default to this for Eminönü and Sirkeci addresses.
Inner route (Golden Horn crossing)
O-7 → TEM eastbound → down through Kağıthane and Halıcıoğlu → across the Golden Horn on the Atatürk (Unkapanı) Bridge → Ragıp Gümüşpala Cd. along the waterfront to Eminönü. Slightly more direct on the map, but it funnels through dense city streets on the final approach. Drivers pick it when the coastal road is jammed. No single train runs from IST to the old city, but three clean rail legs connect the airport to a platform directly beneath Sirkeci station.

Marmaray: Yenikapı → Sirkeci

Alternative last leg: the T1 tram
If Marmaray is disrupted or you are headed for the bazaar rather than Sirkeci, leave the M2 at Vezneciler, walk a few minutes to the T1 tram at Laleli–Üniversite, and ride it downhill toward Kabataş — it stops at both Sirkeci and Eminönü, right by the piers.
